Commercial Hazardous Waste Removal During a Cleanout

Many commercial cleanouts turn up materials that cannot go in a regular bin: old paint, solvents, aerosols, adhesives, cleaning chemicals, batteries, fluorescent tubes, used oil and half-empty drums. These items have to be classified and moved by a licensed hauler to a facility that can accept them, usually with paperwork that follows the load.

All requests are handled through this form. Add as much detail as you can and we will get back to you fast.

The first step is knowing what you have. Labels, safety data sheets and a short inventory let a specialist decide which items are ordinary waste, which are universal waste such as lamps and batteries, and which need a regulated pickup. Unlabelled drums and mixed containers usually need testing or profiling before anyone moves them.

This page is about routing and documentation during a cleanout, not about cleaning up spills or contaminated soil. If a site has a known release, say so in your request so the specialist can plan around it.

What changes the price

Type and quantity
Different wastes are priced by container, weight or volume, and some cost far more to dispose of than others.
Labelling and documentation
Unlabelled material may need testing, which adds time and fees.
Packaging and transport class
Regulated loads need approved packaging and sometimes a specialized vehicle.
Pickup frequency
A single consolidated pickup is cheaper than several small ones.
Disposal route
Recycling, fuel blending and incineration are priced differently.
Site access
Basements, upper floors and tight yards affect handling time.

What a good quote spells out

  • A written inventory of what will be collected and how each item is classified
  • Who the hauler is and what licence or permit they hold, in writing
  • The records you receive after disposal
  • How unlabelled or mixed containers are handled
  • What is excluded, such as spills or contaminated soil

Hazmat-Adjacent Waste: questions people ask

Can regulated waste go in a regular dumpster?

No. Paint, solvents, aerosols, batteries and similar items follow separate rules, and putting them in a bin can bring fines and refusal at the dump.

What if the containers have no labels?

A specialist may need to profile or test the contents before they can be moved. That adds time and cost, so mention it in the request.

Who is responsible for disposal records?

The waste generator, usually the business or owner, is responsible. Ask for copies of the paperwork so you can show a landlord or buyer.

Is asbestos or spill cleanup part of this?

No. Those jobs need their own specialists. A cleanout crew can route ordinary regulated items found during clearing.
